Septorhinoplasty Surgery
What is Septorhinoplasty?
Septorhinoplasty combines both rhinoplasty and septoplasty in a single procedure. This technique reshapes and refines the size, shape, and contours of the nose while also correcting a deviated septum to improve breathing difficulties and reduce issues like snoring.
Septorhinoplasty allows surgeons to address multiple cosmetic and functional concerns in one surgery, leading to more comprehensive, longer-lasting results. This dual approach ensures a balanced, natural-looking nose while enhancing airflow for improved nasal function.
At Real Plastic Surgery, all septorhinoplasty patients will be under the care of our founder, Mr Naveen Cavale, who is a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon and is internationally recognised for his expertise in reconstructive surgery. Why Consider Septorhinoplasty?
When the functioning of the nose needs addressing, Real plastic surgery considers the use of septo rhinoplasty. Other considerations include:
- Deviated septum: Individuals with a deviated septum should consider a septorhinoplasty. A deviated septum can make the nose feel blocked, causing breathing difficulty when eating, speaking and exercising.
- Aesthetic and functional concerns: Septorhinoplasty can effectively address both of these concerns in one procedure, reshaping the nose whilst addressing internal structures inside the nose to improve breathing.

Septorhinoplasty provides a permanent solution. If nose reshaping is also carried out, It can be combined with other surgical and non-surgical procedures to help rejuvenate the appearance and pause the signs of ageing.

The Patient Journey: Septorhinoplasty
The initial septorhinoplasty consultation lasts about 30 minutes, usually face-to-face with Mr. Cavale at the REAL Clinic in Battersea. Virtual consultations are also available, but a final in-person meeting is required before finalising the plan. If you're unsure, you’re welcome to book additional consultations at no extra cost to ensure you’re confident in your decision. It’s imperative that patients feel comfortable and confident in their decisions, so Mr. Cavale encourages all of his patients to speak to their consultant and close support network before making their final decision.
After surgery, you’ll need someone to stay with you overnight. Aftercare includes virtual nursing contact via WhatsApp or phone and a follow-up visit a week later to remove dressings, splints, and stitches. Most patients return for a six-week check-up, but final results may take six months to fully settle. If you have concerns, please contact Mr. Cavale at any time.

What to Expect on the Day:
Septorhinoplasty surgery is done in a few hours, and you’ll be home the same day. It is performed with you fully asleep, under TIVA general anaesthesia.
During septorhinoplasty, your surgeon will determine the best approach—whether to make an internal or external incision—to access and correct the deviated septum and reshape the nose. This nose surgery is effective for breathing issues and involves carefully adjusting the septum, the structure that separates the nasal cavity, by removing or straightening bone and cartilage to improve airflow and functionality.
When you wake up, you will have a cast and tape over the top of your nose and some light packing inside the nose; we do not like to use rigid packing or splints, as these can be very painful to remove. The packing inside your nose is removed before you go home and the stitches and the cast are removed a week later. You will be able to shower the next day, but the face needs to be kept dry for a week. To find out more about rhinoplasty recovery, read our article on rhinoplasty recovery tips.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
How much does a septorhinoplasty cost?
The advanced technology and specialised training make septorhinoplasty more expensive than traditional rhinoplasty. Costs in London range between £8,000 to £15,000 for full treatment. View our price guide for more information.
-
What is the difference between a rhinoplasty and a septorhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure to reshape or resize the nose, whereas septorhinoplasty is a more comprehensive procedure that combines functional and aesthetic improvements. The procedure aesthetically enhances the nose whilst also straightening or repairing the septum, the structure that separates the nostrils, to improve breathing and correct nasal obstructions.

Can I breathe through my nose after septorhinoplasty?
For the first week after surgery, your nose will be completely blocked by dressings, requiring you to breathe through your mouth until they are removed. Swelling and internal packing may further restrict breathing for one to two weeks, with full recovery and normal airflow gradually returning over several months. The healing timeline varies depending on the individual case. Read more about the recovery process for rhinoplasty procedures in our blog section.
