Jawline Contouring
The shape of each person’s face is unique, and genetics often determine how the features are formed. Facial aesthetics can play a big role in how happy a person is with their overall appearance, and a profile that is well-defined with features that are balanced and in proportion with each other is often desired.

What to Expect on the Day
When approaching jawline contouring from a surgical perspective there are a variety of procedures that can be considered. We assess your specific concerns at a private consultation where we will decide which procedures will be most suitable.
If excess fat under the chin is causing a heavy look to the lower face, we may suggest liposuction which works to remove fatty deposits to slim the area around the neck and expose less skin. A face lift can help to restore a youthful look when sagging skin is hanging around the jawline. This procedure helps to lift and tighten the skin on various areas of the face, smoothing the skin and restoring facial contours. Our surgeons can also slim the jaw when the natural bone structure is perceived to be too wide, shaving the bone so the lower face looks slimmer. Chin implants may be considered when a long-term solution for improving the appearance of a weak chin is required. This can add volume to the chin so it protrudes in-line with the nose and mouth and alters the contouring of the lower face.
Treatment Time
This can depend on the procedure that is to be performed. You should be able to go home on the same day, and the type of anaesthetic we will use will be discussed at consultation.
Downtime
Our expert team of medical professionals will advise what to expect from your recovery and when you may be able to return to work, depending on the procedure that has been performed.
Reasonable Mobility
We recommend patients begin gentle movement around two days after surgery. Light activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and carrying out basic daily tasks are encouraged to support circulation and recovery.
Sport & Exercise
Depending on the procedure, we will advise when it is recommended to return to exercise and sports.
Driving
Most patients are able to drive again within one to two days, once any discomfort has settled.
Shower
You can shower the day after surgery, but it's important to keep any wounds and dressings clean and completely dry.
Full Recovery
Between six months to a full year. While most swelling subsides within the first few months, subtle changes and final results may continue to develop over time.
Maintenance
This will be discussed at consultation, according to your individual treatment plan.
Reason for doing this?
Jawline contouring enhances facial balance by refining or defining the jaw area, creating a sharper and more youthful profile.
Reasons to Avoid
If you have any doubts. Our team of experts will provide support and guidance all the way through your treatment journey; using the consultation to determine your suitability and your certainty.
Showering After a Jawline Contouring
When you can shower after jawline contouring will largely depend on the type of procedure that you have undergone. We typically advise that all wounds have healed sufficiently before you get them wet, usually when dressings have been removed.
Follow Up and Aftercare
With any surgical procedure we arrange to see you 5 – 7 days after the procedure. We also review your recovery at around 6 weeks and, depending on the procedure, at 3 months. During each appointment we will provide you with great aftercare advice so that you heal successfully and achieve the desired result.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my results be permanent?
In many cases a surgical procedure will provide long-term solutions to your concerns, which may even be permanent. It is important to consider with ageing-related concerns that the structure of the face will continue to change over time, which may affect the results in the future.
Can jawline contouring be combined with other procedures?
Jawline contouring can be performed alongside other procedures, especially when thinking about improving the entire facial profile, or when rejuvenating the whole of the face. This can be discussed at consultation, and the experts at REAL plastic surgery can recommend which procedures will be most suitable.
Will there be some scarring?
Surgical procedures usually require an incision to be made in the skin, which will incur some scarring. REAL plastic surgery uses advanced surgical techniques which considers where scars will appear, and ensures they are as discreet as possible.
