Excess Arm Skin

What bothers you about your arms?

The term ‘bingo wings’ is often used as an affectionate way to describe the appearance of excess fat and / or skin on the upper arms.

This concern can increase the size of the upper arms, causing them to wobble when they are moved around, and for the skin to hang when the arms are raised. Many people can feel self-conscious of their bingo wings, and feel the need to ensure they wear clothes that have sleeves.

Bingo wings often develop as a result of gaining weight. Consuming more calories than the body requires leads to excess energy getting stored in the body as fat. Where the body decides to distribute these deposits of excess fat can vary from one individual to another, and many people also find that various areas of the body can experience this concern. When excess skin also contributes to the development of bingo wings, it could be down to factors such as ageing or weight loss.

Ageing skin can become loose as elasticity declines, creating a pocket at the top of the arms for fat to sit in – producing the characteristic sagging effect that is common with this concern. It is a great achievement when a person loses weight. However when weight gain has been particularly prolonged, it can stretch the skin which may then be difficult to return to its original form – and hangs from the body.

Real Plastic Surgery has a range of body contouring procedures available to help reshape and recontour the body. Improving the appearance of the upper arms may require an arm lift procedure that uses surgical techniques to reduce excess fat and excess skin. Liposuction can also be carried out alongside an arm lift to help remove subcutaneous fat from the upper arms, before excess skin is removed.
