What bothers you about your legs?
An increase in the size of the thighs is often due to the development of thigh fat.
This concern often means the legs do not possess a shape that is considered attractive or ‘shapely’ and the appearance of cellulite may also increase. People affected by excess fat on the thighs are not usually happy with the top part of the legs looking bigger than they would prefer, often with a dimpled appearance, causing self-consciousness and the need to keep the legs covered.
Gaining weight is often the main contributor to the development of thigh fat. When the daily diet contains an excess of calories, or foods that are high in sugar and saturated fat, the body finds it has an excess of energy. In order for this not to turn into fat the body will need to burn it off, usually through an increase in activity / exercise.
Although everyone’s body will distribute excess fat differently, it is common for people to experience thigh fat. It is mainly subcutaneous fat that accumulates on the thighs – the jiggly fat that sits just beneath the skin. The ageing process, hormone changes and genetics can also influence the way your body deals with the development of fat, and where in the body it gets distributed.
Diet and exercise are often effective methods of reducing excess fat on the body, particularly with thigh fat. Many people try specific exercises that are designed to help tone and reshape the legs. Whilst this can produce results, for many people stubborn fat can remain.
Real Plastic Surgery can perform liposuction when small amounts of stubborn fat on the thighs are causing concern. If excess skin is also an issue, a surgical thigh lift can help to tighten the skin and create a more toned appearance
