What bothers you about your belly?
Stomach fat is a concern that is experienced by many people, regardless of their individual shape or size.
Whether this type of fat appears as a pinchable pocket, or in greater volume that is noticeable to others, affected people will often feel like their figure looks less toned and out of shape. The main reason for stomach fat can be having regularly consumed more calories than the body needs, as well as having low activity levels and through general ageing.
There are two types of fat that can accumulate around the abdomen: subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. Subcutaneous fat typically develops just beneath the skin and is the type of fat that jiggles and makes the body feel soft and spongy. For many, subcutaneous fat can be fairly easy to get rid of. As this is the way that excess energy gets stored in the body, making a few changes to diet and lifestyle means the body is able to use it up and burn it off.
Visceral fat is also known as ‘hidden fat’ and builds up deeper within the body – often wrapping around the internal organs. For most people it makes up around one tenth of all body fat, the body shape increases in size – usually around the stomach. Visceral fat feels more solid and can be harder to get rid of. It can also be more likely to contribute to the development of certain medical conditions such as diabetes, heart and stroke.
Real Plastic Surgery often helps patients with concerns about excess fat around the stomach. In cases where subcutaneous fat is causing the issue we can perform liposuction to help get rid of the stubborn deposits and restore a more shapely body profile.
