What bothers you about your face?
A heavy / tired look to the upper part of the face is often contributed to by fallen eyebrows.
This happens when one or both of the eyebrows drops from its usual positioning on the forehead and sits closer to the eye itself. In many cases, fallen brows will appear alongside drooping eyelids and wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), as well as other facial wrinkles above the brow (forehead lines).
Fallen brows commonly develop as a result of the ageing process, and men and women will often notice its appearance when in their 30s or 40s. For several years prior to this age, collagen and elastin ceased to be produced, causing their levels to deplete. As a result, internal volume is lost and the skin loses its ability to stretch and contract effectively.
Thin, weak skin that is less supported by its underlying structure becomes wrinkled and loose and the facial muscles and fat will start to descend. The factors involved in the natural process of ageing can be accelerated by the frequent exposure to the sun, especially when a suitable barrier of protection (SPF) is not applied. This is also influenced by a person’s genetics, often experiencing the signs of ageing in much the same way as their birth parents.
At Real Plastic Surgery we often carry out a brow lift to help improve the appearance of fallen brows. This procedure uses surgical techniques to elevate the brow by removing excess skin and tissue on the forehead, before it can be effectively tightened and repositioned. This procedure is great for creating a rejuvenated look to the upper face, but can also be performed alongside other facial procedures, such as: face lift, blepharoplasty, neck lift and jawline contouring.
