Thigh Lift
The most common reason for a person requesting a thigh lift is to help reshape legs and restore natural looking contouring. The skin on the thighs can become loose following weight loss, or due to the effects of ageing when the skin can also appear wrinkled or crepey looking.

What to Expect on the Day
The thigh lift procedure uses surgical techniques to remove excess and tissue from the thighs. Your individual concerns and the amount of skin that needs to be removed will determine the specific technique that our surgeons will use.
An incision may be made either on the outer thigh, the inner thigh, or in the groin. Excess skin can then be trimmed away before being reshaped and sutured into place. In some cases liposuction is also performed to help reduce small pockets of fat.
A thigh lift can be performed alongside other body contouring procedures such as: arm lift, abdominoplasty, gynaecomastia, breast augmentation, breast uplift and breast reduction, or as part of the mummy makeover to help improve the overall appearance of the body.
Before you leave the clinic we will fit you with a post-surgical compression garment which may need to be worn for around 6 weeks. This will help the skin and tissue to adjust to the new position, as well as to suppress any swelling.
Treatment Time
A thigh lift often takes up to 3 hours. At REAL plastic surgery we use a general anaesthetic and you may be able to go home the same day.
Downtime
You may need to take up to 2 weeks off work with most people having significantly recovered within 6 weeks.
Reasonable Mobility
We recommend patients begin gentle movement around two days after surgery. Light activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and carrying out basic daily tasks are encouraged to support circulation and recovery.
Sport & Exercise
You may need to avoid strenuous exercise and the gym for up to 6 or 8 weeks.
Driving
Most patients can resume driving two weeks after surgery, provided they feel comfortable.
Shower
You can shower the day after surgery, but it's important to keep any wounds and dressings clean and completely dry.
Full Recovery
Between six months to a full year. While most swelling subsides within the first few months, subtle changes and final results may continue to develop over time.
Maintenance
In most cases 1 procedure can produce long-term results.
Reason for doing this?
To create a more shapely appearance of the legs.
Reasons to Avoid
If you have any doubts. Our team of experts will provide support and guidance all the way through your treatment journey; using the consultation to determine your suitability and your certainty.
Showering After a Thigh Lift
1 week after the procedure is when REAL plastic surgery may recommend that you can shower. The legs will be very tender and the wound will need to have sufficiently healed before you can get them wet.
Follow Up and Aftercare
Your first follow up appointment is usually made 1 week after surgery with further appointments made 3 weeks and 6 months after the procedure. WE review your recovery and healing during our follow-up programme when we will also provide you with appropriate aftercare advice which may include: how to care for your wounds, how long to avoid strenuous activities and what you can do to ensure a successful and long-term result.

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I suitable for a thigh lift?
Will there be much scarring?
Will I need to repeat the procedure?
In many cases our patients enjoy the results of a thigh lift for many years. Maintaining a slim and shapely look is often achieved through the upkeep of a healthy and active lifestyle.
Loose and wrinkled skin can often develop from ageing, which will of course, continue to progress. The effects of this however, may not be seen for many years.
