Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgery designed to enhance the tone and shape through lifting and reshaping the breasts, which may be bottom-heavy and hanging in a lower position than is comfortable or desired. A mastopexy is commonly chosen by patients who experience sagging (ptosis) due to ageing, pregnancy, breastfeeding, fluctuations in their weight, or genetics. Mastopexy can also address unusual breast shapes, for example, where the nipple points downwards or lies below the breast crease. By adjusting the breast fold and lifting the nipple to a more natural position, this surgery can help achieve a more aesthetically balanced, full look to the breasts. The mastopexy procedure repositions the nipple and areola higher on the breast and tightens the surrounding tissue for improved support and symmetry.

At Real Plastic Surgery in London, our founder and consultant plastic surgeon, Mr Naveen Cavale, will remove excess tissue and lift the breasts and nipples to achieve more natural volume, whilst preserving full blood flow and function of the breasts. A mastopexy, or breast lift in London, can be performed as a standalone procedure or in combination with another procedure, such as a breast reduction. We will recommend another procedure during your consultation if we think it necessary to achieve your desired results, for example, a breast augmentation.

Before and After

Why Consider a Mastopexy in London?

A breast lift (mastopexy) has many physical benefits for those experiencing sagging, low-hanging, or deflated breasts. It can also be transformative for individuals whose breasts are affecting their confidence and self-worth. Here are some of the common reasons patients choose to go ahead with a mastopexy in London at Real Plastic Surgery:

  • Restored breast firmness and shape: A breast lift repositions and reshapes the breast tissue to restore a firmer, more youthful look.
  • Improved breast symmetry: If your breasts sit at different heights or have uneven volume, a mastopexy can help achieve better balance.
  • Enhanced breast contour: The procedure refines the overall breast silhouette, creating a more proportionate and flattering upper body shape.
  • Rejuvenated nipple and areola position: Nipples and areolas are lifted to a more natural position, helping the breasts appear more youthful, toned and uplifted.
  • Improved clothing fit and wardrobe options: Better breast positioning often means improved comfort and confidence in a wider variety of clothing, including swimwear and lingerie.
  • Boost in self-confidence and body image: Many patients report a significant improvement in how they feel about their bodies, especially in social and intimate settings.

At Real Plastic Surgery, all mastopexy procedures in London are led by Mr Naveen Cavale and tailored to your unique anatomy, ensuring natural, long-lasting results in a supportive and expert-led environment. Mr Cavale will assess your unique goals, anatomy and health profile to ensure you are a suitable candidate. During your consultation, we’ll also discuss the patient journey, recovery process, and realistic outcomes of the procedure. It’s important to understand the process and potential risks of the procedure and have realistic expectations about the results. A breast list is a personal decision that should be made after careful thought and consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon

Breast Lift Surgery in London

At Real Plastic Surgery, your procedure will be performed by Mr Naveen Cavale, an internationally respected consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon. The surgery is typically done under general anaesthetic and takes around 2–3 hours. For some patients, an uplift alone achieves their desired result. However, in other cases, lifting the breasts without adjusting volume can make them appear smaller, so mastopexy is often combined with either implants or fat transfer to restore breast fullness for a natural and proportionate finish. If there is a significant amount of sagging or heavy breast tissue, a reduction-augmentation may be the most effective approach. This involves reducing the weight of the breast while restoring volume through implants, helping to lift the breasts and maintain long-term results.

Treatment Time

Mastopexy / breast uplift in London can take around one and three hours. We use a general anaesthetic and you can usually go home on the same day.

Downtime

Expect about one week off work, or longer if your job is physically demanding.

Reasonable Mobility

You’ll be walking the same day, though chest movement may feel restricted for the first week.

Sport & Exercise

Gentle walking is fine early on, but strenuous exercise should wait at least six weeks.

Driving

Most patients can resume driving two weeks after surgery, provided they feel comfortable.

Shower

You can shower the day after surgery, but it's important to keep any wounds and dressings clean and completely dry.

Full Recovery

Between six months to a full year. While most swelling subsides within the first few months, subtle changes and final results may continue to develop over time.

Maintenance

Results from a breast lift in London are long-lasting with a stable weight, though ageing and pregnancy may change the breasts over time.

Reason for doing this?

A breast lift in London raises and reshapes sagging breasts for a firmer, more youthful contour.

Reasons to Avoid

A breast lift in London may not be suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning future pregnancies, or have health conditions that affect healing.

The Patient Journey:
Mastopexy (Breast Lift) London

The initial consultation lasts about 60 minutes, usually face-to-face with Mr Cavale at the REAL Clinic in Battersea. Virtual consultations are also available, but a final in-person meeting is required before finalising the plan. The specific approach to the breast lift procedure will be discussed during the consultation, and if you’re unsure, you’re welcome to book additional consultations to ensure you’re confident in your decision. It’s imperative that patients feel comfortable and confident in their decisions, so Mr Cavale encourages all of his patients to speak to their consultant and close support network before making their final decision.

After surgery, you’ll need someone to collect you from the clinic and stay with you overnight. If you live more than an hour from Battersea, we recommend staying in a local hotel for a night with someone in case of emergencies and travelling home the next day. If coming from abroad, plan for two to four weeks in the UK, depending on procedures and your case. Aftercare includes virtual nursing contact via WhatsApp or phone and a follow-up visit a week later to change dressings and ensure your incisions are healing well. At the first appointment after your mastopexy in London, we’ll decide if the dressings and stitches can be removed unless dissolvable stitches have been used. At six weeks, all patients return for a check-up. Your wounds should have healed significantly, and you can hopefully resume many of your usual activities. We may also want to see you three months post-surgery to assess the results, as the final outcome will now start to appear. For around six weeks, you will be required to wear a breast band and a supportive sports bra or surgical bra to help with healing and to support the breasts as they heal. If you have concerns, please contact our specialist nursing team or  Mr Cavale at any time.

What to Expect on the Day:

During a breast lift (mastopexy) in London, incisions will be made according to how much skin and tissue need to be lifted. These are typically placed around the areola and may extend vertically towards the breast crease. This technique allows the breast to be repositioned to a more appropriate point on the chest, depending on the individual’s figure and desired results. The nipple and areola may also be repositioned to suit the new shape, and the overall contour of the breast will be improved without necessarily changing the breast size.  The blood supply to the breasts is preserved during surgery to maintain full function. If breastfeeding is a priority, please raise this during your consultation so your surgeon can plan the procedure to protect the milk ducts and their connections wherever possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be visible scarring after a breast lift?

Scarring is a normal part of the healing process after breast lift (mastopexy) surgery. However, incisions are carefully placed to minimise visibility, typically around the areola and sometimes down to the breast crease. Over time, scars fade significantly and become less noticeable. Following aftercare advice and wearing supportive garments will also help improve the appearance of scars.

Some temporary numbness is common after breast lift surgery, particularly around the nipple area. In most cases, sensation returns as the nerves heal. Sometimes permanent loss of feeling can occur, particularly in more extensive procedures, but it is unique to each case, and Naveen will discuss the risks with you during your initial consultation.

At Real Plastic Surgery, the cost of breast lift surgery in London typically starts from £9,500. Pricing reflects the complexity of the procedure, surgical expertise, and the high standard of care and safety provided throughout your journey.

The results of a breast lift are long-lasting, especially when paired with a healthy lifestyle and good aftercare. Factors such as ageing, gravity, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy can affect long-term outcomes, but wearing a supportive bra daily and maintaining a stable weight can help preserve your results.
