Non-Surgical Scar Removal London

What is Non-Surgical Scar Removal in London?

Scar removal, also known as scar reduction or scar revision, is a non-surgical procedure that uses medical techniques to remove a scar or dramatically reduce and improve its appearance. Scarring can be caused by many different things, including injuries, acne, burns or previous surgeries such as a breast reduction or C-section.  Visible scars can have a long-term impact on a person’s confidence, particularly when they are visible, like on the face, so it’s important to address these concerns with safe and effective treatment.

At Real Plastic Surgery, all scar removal patients will be under the care of our founder, Mr Naveen Cavale, who is a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon with over 30 years of experience, and is internationally recognised for his expertise in reconstructive surgery. Treatment Time

Between 1 and 2.5 hours. We use a general anaesthetic and you can usually go home on the same day.

Downtime

Dependent on treatment, but no longer than 14 days.

Reasonable Mobility

We recommend patients begin gentle movement around two days after surgery. Light activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and carrying out basic daily tasks are encouraged to support circulation and recovery.

Sport & Exercise

You can begin exercising and doing more strenuous activities at six weeks.

Driving

Some patients can drive immediately after treatment, and most can resume driving two weeks after surgery, provided they feel comfortable.

Shower

You can shower the day after surgery, but it's important to keep any wounds and dressings clean and completely dry.

Full Recovery

Between six months to a full year. While most swelling subsides within the first few months, subtle changes and final results may continue to develop over time.

Maintenance

In many cases only one procedure is required for long-term results.

Reason for doing this?

Scar revision treatments help restore the skin’s natural tone and texture, improving the appearance of scars for a smoother surface

Reasons to Avoid

If you have any doubts, our expert team will support you throughout your treatment journey. During your consultation for scar revision in London, we’ll assess your suitability and ensure you feel fully informed and confident every step of the way.

The Patient Journey:
Non-Surgical Scar Removal in London

If we’re confident that a scar can be improved, we’ll suggest a suitable treatment option during your consultation, whether surgical or non-surgical. For many patients, particularly those with acne scarring, burn scars or hypertrophic scarring, we begin with non-surgical options such as BBL (BroadBand Light) laser, ProFractional laser, or medical-grade creams and silicone gels designed to flatten, fade, or smooth the scar over time.

There are cases where a surgical scar revision will likely yield the best outcome, and we can perform the procedure under local anaesthetic using specialist plastic surgery techniques. This may be recommended due to complications during initial healing or if we’re confident we can improve the appearance of the existing scar. We often combine this with non-surgical treatments, such as laser therapy, to further refine your result over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of scars can be treated?

Treatments can be tailored to improve a wide range of scars, including acne scars, hypertrophic scars, keloid scars, contracture scars from burns or injuries, and scars left by surgery or trauma.

Effective treatments for acne scars include laser therapy, microneedling, chemical peels, and dermal fillers. The best option depends on the type and severity of the scars.

Treatments can significantly reduce a scar’s visibility, but complete removal may not always be possible. The effectiveness depends on factors such as scar type, age, and individual skin characteristics.

The number of sessions needed will vary depending on the type of scar and the treatment used. For instance, BBL laser treatment often requires between three and six sessions, whereas profractional laser may involve one to two sessions, and topical treatments typically take several months to show visible improvement.

After your scar revision procedure, you’ll be able to go home the same day. You may need mild pain relief, but most patients find recovery very manageable. We recommend taking a couple of days to rest before returning to work and avoiding any activity that puts strain on the treated area.

To support optimal healing, it’s important to keep the area protected from sun exposure for several months, either by covering up or using a high-SPF sunblock. Final results develop gradually and are usually visible between 12 to 24 months post-procedure.

Yes, even older scars can be treated, though the results may take longer to achieve. Newer scars often respond more quickly to treatments.

Laser treatment can significantly reduce the appearance of acne scars, particularly those caused by mild to moderate breakouts. While deeper or more severe scarring may not disappear completely, targeted treatment can greatly improve skin texture and confidence.
