Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) Surgery in London

What is Rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a procedure to resize or reshape the nose. A rhinoplasty can be performed for both cosmetic and functional purposes and can achieve a more proportionate, balanced nose that enhances your natural facial features, whilst also improving functional issues like breathing difficulties.

At Real Plastic Surgery, all rhinoplasty patients will be under the care of our founder, Mr Naveen Cavale, who is a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon and is internationally recognised for his expertise in reconstructive surgery. Before and After

Why Consider Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries with many patients seeking nose surgery for a variety of reasons; the most common being:

  • Enhancing facial features with rhinoplasty: A lot of our patients come to us because they’re unhappy with the appearance of their nose. This could be a small bump on the bridge or the nose, or unevenness in the shape of the nostrils, among many other things.
  • Enhancing Respiratory Function: We have a number of patients who come to us with medical concerns related to breathing. Some have experienced these issues since birth due to congenital deformity, while others have had these issues develop over a period of time.

  • Repairing Injuries and Restoring Function: Another common reason for rhinoplasty, or septo rhinoplasty surgery is to repair injuries and internal damage caused by trauma to the nose. Nasal fractures and broken noses can cause internal damage to the nose, causing problems to both appearance and functionality.

Types of Rhinoplasty

Mr. Naveen Cavale uses a variety of rhinoplasty techniques tailored to each patient’s needs. He often performs open piezo rhinoplasty using ultrasonic (piezo) technology, an advanced method that uses ultrasonic soundwaves to reshape the nose and address both functional and cosmetic concerns. Depending on the individual case, he may also opt for conventional rhinoplasty or explore newer preservation techniques, with the final approach determined after assessing the patient’s needs and nasal structure.

Treatment Time

Between 2 and 2.5 hours. We use a general anaesthetic and you can usually go home on the same day.

Downtime

10 - 14 days off work.

Reasonable Mobility

We recommend patients begin gentle movement around two days after surgery. Light activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and carrying out basic daily tasks are encouraged to support circulation and recovery.

Sport & Exercise

You can begin exercising and doing more strenuous activities at six weeks.

car

Driving

Most patients can resume driving two weeks after surgery, provided they feel comfortable.

Shower

You can shower the day after surgery, but it's important to keep any wounds and dressings clean and completely dry.

Full Recovery

Between six months to a full year. While most swelling subsides within the first few months, subtle changes and final results may continue to develop over time.

Maintenance

Rhinoplasty provides a permanent solution. It can be combined with other surgical and non-surgical procedures when looking to rejuvenate the appearance and reduce signs of ageing.

Reason for doing this?

To address aesthetic and structural concerns such as dorsal humps, nasal deviation, asymmetry, or disproportionate nasal size. The procedure also aims to improve nasal contour and function, including correction of breathing difficulties caused by internal nasal obstruction (e.g. deviated septum).

Reasons to Avoid

If you have any doubts. Our team of experts will support and guide you through your treatment journey. During your consultation, Mr Cavale will determine your suitability and your certainty.

The Patient Journey: Rhinoplasty

The initial rhinoplasty consultation lasts about 30 minutes, usually face-to-face with Mr. Cavale at the REAL Clinic in Battersea. Virtual consultations are also available, but a final in-person meeting is required before finalising the plan. If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to book additional consultations to ensure you’re confident in your decision. It’s imperative that patients feel comfortable and confident in their decisions, so Mr. Cavale encourages all of his patients to speak to their consultant and close support network before making their final decision.

After surgery, you’ll need someone to stay with you overnight. Aftercare includes virtual nursing contact via WhatsApp or phone, and a follow-up visit a week later to remove dressings, splints, and stitches. Most patients return for a six-week check-up, but final results may take six months to fully settle. If you have concerns, please contact Mr. Cavale at any time.

What to Expect on the Day:

Surgery is done in a few hours, and you’ll be home the same day. It is performed with you fully asleep, under TIVA general anaesthesia.

When you wake up you will have a cast and tape over the top of your nose and some light packing inside the nose; we do not like to use rigid packing or splints, as these can be very painful to remove. You will notice stitches underneath the nose and there will also be other stitches inside the nose that you may not be able to see or feel. The packing inside your nose is removed before you go home and the stitches and the cast are removed a week later. You will be able to shower the next day, but the face needs to be kept dry for a week. To find out more about rhinoplasty recovery, read our article on rhinoplasty recovery tips

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I blow my nose after rhinoplasty?

After rhinoplasty, it’s generally not recommended to blow your nose as it may cause discomfort and swelling. Instead, try using steam from a shower to help clear your nose, but keep your face and the tape on your nose dry to avoid dislodging the splint.

Recovery after rhinoplasty varies from person to person, but generally, you can expect to take up to two weeks off work for initial healing, with swelling and bruising most noticeable during this period. More strenuous or physical exercise can usually resume after 4-6 weeks, however you may not see full results until the six-month mark due to swelling, and sometimes full recover can take up to 18 months depending on the individual.

Choosing a surgeon is about expertise, safety and trust. You should feel at ease, understood, and confident in their expertise. If something feels off or you’re not feeling great about them, it’s best to look elsewhere. Look at their credentials and qualifications. Make sure that your rhinoplasty surgeon is board-certified and highly experienced in rhinoplasty procedures.
