Plastic Surgery Consultation in London

At Real Plastic Surgery in Battersea, London, your plastic surgery consultation is the start of a carefully considered, medically led journey. The consultation is a dedicated one-to-one appointment with Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Mr Naveen Cavale, focused on understanding your symptoms and concerns, exploring possible diagnoses, and identifying the most appropriate treatment options for you.

A Patient-First Approach

Whether you’re experiencing physical discomfort, functional challenges, or emotional distress related to your body and face, your consultation is the space to speak openly and confidentially. Mr Cavale will take the time to listen, ask the right questions, and examine you if appropriate, to arrive at a clear medical picture of what’s going on. Your consultation is designed to provide you with a diagnosis and outline safe, clinically appropriate next steps which may or may not include surgery.

Your Consultation with Real Plastic Surgery

The initial consultation lasts approximately 30 to 60 minutes and is held in person or virtually at our London clinic in Battersea. During this time, you’ll meet directly with Mr Cavale to discuss your concerns, symptoms, and goals in depth. A chaperone or Mr Cavale’s PA will always be present during the consultation to ensure your comfort and to support the clinical process. For patients based further afield, virtual consultations are also available. However, an in-person consultation is required before any surgery can proceed to ensure full clinical assessment and planning.

Understanding Your Options

If you’re considering a procedure, such as a rhinoplasty, facelift or breast reduction, the consultation allows Mr Cavale to assess your anatomy and symptoms and explain the most suitable surgical approach. The aim is always to match the treatment to your diagnosis, not the other way around. You’re under no pressure to decide on your procedure at the consultation stage. If you need more time to think or have further questions, you’re welcome to book additional consultations. Mr Cavale encourages all patients to speak to their loved ones and support network before making any decisions.

This is a little tour of the ambulatory area (the closest we have to a traditional 'ward' for our patients - as you can see it is 'compact' - this is very deliberate - the bays are all very close to theatres, and the recovery room. Nurses are very close by, so safety is excellent. We have avoided the use of closed-off rooms, which means that patient treatment is quick, safe and efficient.

Breast reduction surgery can help to relieve the pain and discomfort associated with large breasts. When very large breasts are a concern, they often cause backache, neck pain, shoulder pain, and even rashes and soreness beneath the breast. Breast reduction surgery works by removing excess breast tissue to reduce the size and improve the shape of the breast. We may also find it necessary to lift the breast, as excessively large breasts may also be prone to sagging due to their weight and size. The size of the nipple may also require reduction so that it is more aesthetically balanced and proportionate to the smaller breasts.

What is breast reduction?

The nose is the most central facial feature, and one that other people can be drawn to when communicating. The appearance of the nose does not always take on the form that one prefers, whether it’s due to genetics or from damage to the structure caused by an accident or injury. Concerns such as: bump on the nose (dorsal hump), crooked nose, hooked nose, a wide bridge or a less defined tip can often impact the affected person’s confidence and self-esteem, seeking a ‘nose job’ to help balance the features and improve their overall look.

What is rhinoplasty?

Cataracts are the natural clouding of the lens inside our eyes. Cataracts develop as we get older and affect our vision. They will affect most of us in our life and are considered a normal part of ageing. Common complaints from cataracts include decreased vision, blurry vision and glare, especially around lights at night. Colour can also be affected as the blue light is absorbed by the cataract. Cataracts develop slowly over time, and when the decreased vision caused by the cataract starts to affect your life, this is the time to consider surgery.

Plastic Surgery

Fat transfer to breast is a popular treatment that can be chosen to increase the volume of the breast, either independently for a small increase in size / volume, or alongside an implant for more dramatic results. Fat transfer to breast quite literally involves the extraction of fat from one area of the body (usually the abdomen or thighs) which is then transferred to the breast. Whilst this procedure is favourable for increases of up to one cup size, it is not a replacement for breast augmentation using implants where more than one cup size increase is desired.

What is fat transfer?

Otoplasty (also known as pinnaplasty) is a surgical procedure that aims to reposition or improve the shape of the ears. There are a number of concerns that can lead to a person seeking otoplasty, but primarily this is due to asymmetrical or protruding ears. Just like our other facial features, the shape and size of our eyes is largely due to genetics.

Scar Removal

A detached retina describes a condition in which the retina comes away from its supporting tissues at the back of the eye. The retina is a thin layer of light sensitive nerve cells and a healthy retina is imperative to clear vision. Retinal detachment can occur due to damage, trauma or injury, inflammation or structural changes to the eye that occur over time.

Symptoms of retinal detachment may include; sudden flashes of light in the peripheral vision (outside of the central field of vision), a sudden increase in floaters (black strand like debris in the field of vision that appear to be floating and are particularly noticeable when looking at a plain surface), shadowing of the peripheral vision that appears to be moving toward the central field of vision and a sensation that a semi transparent curtain is covering / impairing the vision.

Depending on the type and severity of retinal detachment, the appropriate type of surgery required will vary. In essence, all retinal detachment surgery aims to repair holes or tears in the retina and / or traction or pulling. The outlook for retinal detachment surgery is very good, with 90% of cases being successfully at the first operation, but time from symptoms to treatment is crucial, so don’t delay.

Face Lift

A Macular hole is a gap in the part of the retina that is most sensitive to light, and as such is responsible for the central vision. The hole causes a gap in your central vision, making it difficult to read, see faces or see detail when looking at something. The peripheral vision is usually preserved and is not affected by the hole in the macula. Macula holes occur in approximately 1 in 10,000 people. Unfortunately, if it happens in one eye, there is a much greater chance of it also happening in the other eye.

Macular Hole Surgery

Floaters occur most frequently due to the vitreous jelly separating from the retina (light sensitive layer) behind it. If you see new floaters, or flashing of lights, this could signify that the vitreous jelly is coming away from the retina and you should see an ophthalmologist straight away as there is a chance that as the jelly separates, a tear in the retina can form. Urgent treatment can reduce the risk of retinal detachment.
If you have stable, longstanding floaters in your vision, these can removed by a procedure that removes the vitreous jelly (vitrectomy). The operation takes less than an hour, and typically you will need 1-2 weeks off work.
