Why Consider a BBL (BroadBand Light) HERO Laser?
At Real Plastic Surgery, we offer a powerful combination of BBL HERO Laser and Halo treatments to target a range of skin concerns, including sun damage, pigmentation, redness, acne, rosacea, and uneven texture. BBL uses targeted light energy to break down pigmentation and vascular lesions, triggering the body’s natural healing response for clearer, more even skin. Halo works alongside BBL HERO by using both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to resurface the skin, stimulate collagen, and improve overall tone and texture.
This non-invasive treatment is ideal for anyone looking to brighten their complexion, reduce pigmentation, and boost collagen, all with minimal downtime.

The Patient Journey:
How BBL HERO Works
What to Expect on the Day:
During the treatment, you’ll feel a warm sensation with each flash of light, which can be a little uncomfortable. Most patients find it easy to tolerate and do not require any anaesthetic numbing cream, however this is available if you’d like it. After treatment, you may experience some mild redness for up to 24 hours, but downtime is minimal.
It’s very important to avoid direct sun exposure for a few days and apply SPF50 daily (which we hope is already part of your routine). Over the following days, your skin will continue to renew itself as healthy new cells rise to the surface, revealing a clearer, more radiant complexion. Frequently Asked Questions
What is BBL Hero?
BroadBand™ Light (BBL) is an advanced form of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy that is more advanced and effective than traditional laser treatments. While lasers target the skin using a single, focused wavelength, BBL delivers a broad spectrum of light, allowing multiple wavelengths to penetrate and treat different layers of the skin simultaneously.
Not all IPL technologies are identical. BBL is the most sophisticated evolution of light-based therapy, stimulating the skin’s natural healing process to boost collagen and elastin production, while visibly improving signs of ageing, pigmentation, and skin tone.
What does BBL stand for?
BBL stands for broadband light therapy.
How does BBL Hero work?
Sciton’s BBL HERO® (High Energy Rapid Output) treatment uses advanced intense pulsed light (IPL) technology to target unwanted pigmentation with precision and speed. During treatment, rapid pulses of light are passed over the skin, gently heating and darkening pigmented areas. For the following week, your body’s natural healing response works to eliminate the treated pigment, replacing it with fresh, healthy skin cells and leaving your complexion clearer, brighter, and more even in tone.
Is the BBL laser painful?
Each flash of light produces a warm sensation which can be a little uncomfortable. Most patients find it easy to tolerate and do not require any anaesthetic numbing cream.
What is the recovery like for BBL laser?
After treatment it’s essential to protect your skin by limiting sun exposure, wearing protective clothing, and applying a high SPF suncream daily. Light makeup can be worn 24 hours after your procedure.
How many BBL laser treatments do you need to see results?
The number of treatments depends on your individual symptoms and goals. During your consultation, your specialist will advise you on the best course of treatment.
